Born in Germany in 1974, the Volkswagen Golf has seen seven generations and more than 29 million units built as of 2012. Volkswagen's bestselling model and the world's second bestselling vehicle, the Golf has made its mark on the auto industry. Winner of the World Car of the Year in 2009 and 2013, the Golf is one of the most recognizable vehicles on the road.

Primarily marketed as a hatchback, the Golf has been used as both personal vehicles to high-performance hot hatchbacks. Under normal circumstances, the Golf performs as a vehicle that gives drivers exactly what they want. In extreme examples, APR Motorsport has taken the Golf to two victories in the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge in the Street Tuner call.

A popular model around the world, the Volkswagen Golf doesn't just lend itself to a single market. Most recently, the Volkswagen Golf lineup took home the 2015 Motor Trend Car of the Year award. In the year prior, the Golf was selected as the Car of the Year in Japan, the first imported car to win the award since its creation in 1980. The Golf also took home European Car of the Year twice, in 1992 and 2013. Top Gear even named the Golf the "All the Car You'll Ever Need Car of the Year 2012."
