Though you will get a powertrain warranty and a comprehensive warranty with your new vehicle, you may also want to consider an extended warranty, which could cover some of those extras that are not covered by the comprehensive bumper-to-bumper plan. These warranties are typically beneficial if you are not prepared to cover major out-of-pocket expenses for otherwise uncovered issues - expenses that can easily reach $2,000 to $3,000.

Powertrain Warranties

When you purchase your new car, you typically don't just get a comprehensive warranty. You also get a powertrain warranty. The comprehensive warranty covers (almost) everything except for the powertrain.  Powertrain warranties cover the powertrain, of course. This includes anything that powers your new car - typically the engine, driveshaft, and transmission.

Powertrain warranty plans typically last five years/60,000 miles, and the same is true for powertrain warranties that come with Volkswagen vehicles.
